Analysing horror movie posters

In these posters, the film title takes up huge amount of the page. They are in colourful and unique fonts to stand out.The  colours are red to look like blood, and broken/faded fonts give an eerie atmosphere. Many titles are at the bottom or top of the page depending on the image. Images can be in mysterious locations which are dark or un-recognizable, making it hard for the audience to read into what is going on in the image bringing them curiosity. They also are commonly set in lonely locations, such as houses, woods, attics etc.

Some posters are very graphic and obvious, such as the "Alice Sweet Alice" poster. Audiences will be able to understand from the poster that it will contain gore and blood, reflected by the red title. Other psychological posters have a face as the main image, which could be disturbing/super natural, or expressing someone's frightened emotions. Many horror films include children, and the "Ring 2" poster has a disturbing eerie image of the girl in the film. The darkness of the poster seems un-nerving. Another common theme is technology, eg. TV screens, telephones etc.

In my opinion the "Alice Sweet Alice" is the most un-nerving poster, due to the blood, title, the knife, mask and how the title looks like blood and says "sweet".
